In the book "Mentally Incontinent" Joe the Peacock, Joe describes several events as among the most "surreal" of his life. He avoids contracdicting himself, but he does mention it several times.

If I were to pick, I'd say the most "surreal" experience in my life was seeing my car on the back of a flatbed.

I drove daily from September to March, 03-04. Then, I ran a red light, crashed my car, and retired from driving for a while. I could write pages about how that felt - though the paragraph would start to repeat after a while and you wonder why you're in this loop. Suffice to say, I was terrified of cars for some time.

One day I was in the car, coming west along Devon, stopped at Milwaukee. My mom was driving, of course. We see the flatbed truck drive by carrying my car on its back - mangled, full of cardboard (I'd been hauling a lot that day for a project). I didn't feel remorseful, I didn't feel sudden closure. I said, huh. That's weird. And we went home.
